As we mentioned before, the Viscera Film Festival and founder Shannon Lark are in Ireland at the University College of Dublin today and tomorrow for a symposium about Gender, Sexuality, and Horror hosted by Dr. Emma Radley. If you missed today, check with Dr. Radley to see if there’s room in tomorrow’s presentation!

And, if you’re free on the night of May 20, head over to the Sugar Club for the afterparty (more specific details, such as cover price, on the graphic below. :D)

A video from MissRepresentation.org and LoveSocial highlighting vital statistics concerning our young women and what is spoonfed to them as acceptable by our media…i.e. US.

Speak up and break the cycle.

“Q: Why do you write strong women? A: Because you’re still asking me that.” — Joss Whedon

The Huffington Post U.K.’s Culture section had a feature on nine women who chose to hide their gender in order to be published and/or be taken seriously as an author. Or, as in the case of J.K. Rowling, were advised by their “people” to hide their gender. What do YOU think? End results aside, do you think hiding their gender helped sell the book? Do you think that’s a step female filmmakers should consider taking, or does it feel slightly misleading and disingenuous?
