Got a bit of news concerning further festival screenings for Curio Media co-founder Karen Lam’s newest short film The Stolen.

It’s been invited to play the Atlanta Horror Film Festival September 28-30, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Razor Reel Fantastic Film Festival October 25-November 3…in Bruges. (*giggles*—LB)

Of course you do!! And you’ll have plenty of chances as it’s hitting the festival circuit, starting with the Dragon*Con Independent Film Festival which takes place during Atlanta, Georgia’s annual Dragon*Con event.

Can’t make it to Georgia? The Stolen will also be playing at the inaugural Etheria Film Festival in Somerville, Massachusetts, on September 15. Etheria is a new branch of the Viscera Organization that focuses on sci-fi and fantasy films made by women.

Live in Canada? Never fear! The Stolen is making its Canadian premiere at the Montreal ComicCon HorrorFest!

We had linked to a review of Karen Lam’s newest short film The Stolen on June 8 and it’s since been turned into a podcast review for Gruesome Herzog which you can listen to here.

Tonight at 7:30 EST, you can hear an interview with Karen on the CBC radio show Creating Fear hosted by Christy Ann Conlin, or you can listen to it on the CBC website by clicking here, the episode is called Creating Fear. Here are a few reviews of this year’s amazing Viscera Film Festival, which was held at the Egyptian in Los Angeles.

Announced at the Viscera event was a new service of the organization called MoHA, the Mistresses of Horror Alliance, which is headed up by French-Canadian filmmaker Maude Michaud. Allow me to quote myself (me being LB):

Where Viscera seeks to promote and encourage female filmmakers externally, MoHA seeks to connect those filmmakers with each other to encourage collaboration amongst our ranks. This is all a part of the message of Viscera, that we’re better working together like the organs of the human body (y’know…viscera.)

The website for MoHA is still being worked on, but if I’m remembering correctly, it should be up before the end of the year.

Dame Helen Mirren calls out festival for their lack of female directors!

As reported on the Women and Hollywood blog, Dame Helen Mirren has called out the director of the Karlovy International Film Festival, and indirectly all other film festivals, for not having more films by women in their line-ups.

Note from LB: Having just bore witness to the amazing Viscera Film Festival this past weekend (more on that coming soon), I can tell you there are far more of us directing films than Hollywood would like you to think. Just check out this piece from Viscera board member Heidi Honeycutt who owns Planet Etheria about how Sony neglected to mention in their press release for UNKNOWN that the majority of the episodes of their new horror anthology were directed by Martha Coolidge.

Don’t forget that THIS WEEKEND is the annual Viscera Film Festival bloody carpet kick-off for the 2012 tour! It takes place at the Egyptian in Los Angeles! The afterparty will be at the Hotel Roosevelt and there’s a brunch at Wirtshaus the next (early) afternoon!

The Etheria Film Festival, a component of the Viscera Organization and co-presented by AllThingsHorrorOnline.net, which features science fiction and fantasy films made by women, will have it’s inaugural event in Boston, Massachusetts, at the Somerville Theatre on September 15! Among those films chosen for the festival is none other than Karen Lam’s newest short film THE STOLEN!

Curio Media co-founder Karen Lam’s upcoming film Evangeline, the feature length version of Doll Parts, has been accepted to the Network of Asian Fantastic Films in Korea next month.

From Karen:

So excited that Evangeliine (the Doll Parts feature) has been selected as one of the IT-projects from out of 98 entries from 23 countries at the Pifan/NAFF fanastic film festival in (…) Korea this summer. Yaaay!
